Evaluation...

Throughout the project i felt i have individually learnt so much and i am very pleased. I am pleased with our final product and i am proud to say i was appart of it and edited it. From knowing nothing about final cut pro or editing, to now being confident and comfortable to use the soft wear to edit a short film i couldn't be happier. I have developed new skills on the soft wear and focused on expanding my knowledge on editing techniques.

Personally i have learnt new skills aswell as editing related such as working under pressure with new people, time scheduling, new research skills and dedication. I will now be prepared for my next project carrying across everything i have learnt. It has been hard work but have loved every minute of it.
To get more interaction within our entertainment and news sections we decided it would look professional and different if we added in video clips and a news strip to the studios. In the News room video we managed to get a video i found playing in the TV next to me, the presenter and also a news strip running across the bottom of the screen that we found on the mac's computer tools.

This is an image of the original New's desk it was filmed at ...

And this was the virtual studio we used...Unfortunetly we didn't get a screen shot of us working on this section.

Here is the music video i found to go into the News TV. It had rioting and world affairs shown and i thought went perfect with the subject matter we were discussing- Rioting for the rise in tution fees for September 2012...

This image is a screen shot of the mens fashion section. This shows the development of our idea where we were originally going to have a voice over but then decided to have model and presenter on screen together to show more interaction between them.

This image is of Bradley in the entertainment section. As you can see we have edited it so there is no green left and now we are trying to get him the correct size. It was hard to get consistancy throughout the clips so that all the presenters and models were the same size and shape. As his trousers were such a similar colour to the green screen we found that his legs were almost transparent at times resulting in us tidiously using chromer key to fix the problem.

This is one of our first days of editing where we are working on putting the presenter into the virtual studio. As you  can see we are using four point garbage matte to start discarding the green.

Editing suite

After our first day in the editing suite, capturing and logging we decided to focus on finalising a firm structure for our show. This would mean deleting clips and sections we didn't need or want. Originally in our structure we had a chat show, celebrity guest and film debate but due to time limitation we had to cut these out of our filming schedule. When putting the stucture together we realised it didn't really work as well as we thought leading in us moving sections around on the timeline on Final cut. This was a hassle and a pain moving things around as alot of things went out of sync. Originally we had an introduction to the Mr Fit section but unexpectedly lost it resulting in us inserting a introduction page to it.
For our entertainment and cooking section. We cut the clips to the length that was suitable which was around minute for the cooking and 10 seconds for the music clips. The weather was a problem for us and we were constantly debating removing it or keeping it, due to the fact it was too long. However it was the shortest clip we could find without any logo's from TV channels and in the end kept it at around 40/50 seconds after editing it which was hard from the speed of the ladies voice. I am pleased we kept it as i feel it really helped shape the Morning Show.

As my main role was editing the programme i felt a lot of pressure as i was un experienced with using final cut pro, as were all of us. By reading books, taking notes from teachers and Youtube tutorials we were able to work out how to use all of the tools on the programme. As the programme developed i felt that i have developed with it improving my knowledge on how to use the programme. The editing proccess was a tidious one which was very time consuming, furstrating and rewarding at the same time. It was a shame that some members of the group didn't apprecitate the time and effort me and Raggy were putting into the editing.

The hardest part of the editing process i found was cutting around the actors and transferring them into the virtual studios. What we didn't think about in advanced was when filming we got myself and Bradley to stand on a sticky note to show were centre was. Although this was helpful at the time it proved to be a nightmare to get rid of on screen when editing and will keep this in mind for future.
For me the fashion section was the hardest section to edit. Oringinally we had decided that we were just going to have the model walk out and there be a voice over by the presenter explaining the outfit. However we decided against this and added in the presenter.

Re- shooting

After watching all of the footage we had filmed for the interviews we came to a desicion that we were going to have to re-shoot all of the interviews. This was due to the fact we were unprepared for it and the lighting and sound was very poor. We didn't take into consideration our location for the shoot and how it would sound and look afterwards. The interviews was the first thing we had done for the project where we went out on our first day to start filming. The interviews were with current Kingston University students discussing the rise in fees for next year and how it is going to effect peoples educational future. We had 5 takes with different students but none were good enough quality. The interview was the easiest part to add into our timeline when editing so left it to one of the last things to look at. This led us into last minute filming an interview on campus. The interview turned out perfect with light and sound as we had learnt from our mistakes and ended up being in our final project.

Main Filming shots...

Once we had the bulk of the show filmed we watched back the footage to realise we only have one face on master shot. This worried us at first as it didn't show vareity of camera shots from a selection of angles and distances but it actually turned out well. As our show is a morning show we wanted the presenters to interact with the viewers as if it was a live show so the one head on middle shot we had worked out really well. I am glad we used the one shot as i felt it gave the show more sophistication and more mature feel than switching from differnet angles or views as this wouldn't normal occur in a morning show.
